Feel 56 Degree Sand Wedge |
Feels
Like A Winner
David A. Dodson
Ever wish
that you could hit a blade like the pros? Or that you could be
consistent from fifty to seventy yards to the pin? What if I said
that you could do both and look cool doing it? No, it's not voodoo,
just good science, specifically the superior engineering skills
of Lee "Dr. Feel" Miller PhD. He came up with this crazy
idea where a forged blade wedge could be hit just as easily as
a cavity back. The plan was to use a system of equal toe and heel
surface area for premium handling and club stability, a six-way
tour ground sole to gain more consistent control of problem shots,
and frequency matching so that every wedge feels exactly the same.
Did he
succeed? I'll say. I've always been intimidated by blades, but
the Feel wedge has me ready to convert. I tested their Satin wedge
with a 52-degree loft and nine-degree bounce. The first thing
I noticed was the weight, it was a little heavier than I was used
to, but the balance was superb. My game being what it is, I had
ample opportunity to hit from the sand and the rough as well as
the occasional fairway. I had a pleasant surprise waiting for
me nearly every time; on almost every occasion I overshot the
green. The sand was the biggest shock; it was if there was no
sand at all under the ball. Arcs were clean and high (although
a little long) and most importantly, straight where I aimed them.

Feel's Line of Designer Wedges
|
They
also happen to be fairly attractive clubs. The basic shape is
utilitarian; you can tell that these clubs mean business and
were designed to perform. Not much on decoration, the wedges
bear only the "FEEL" logo and loft degree. As far
as finish goes you have a choice; the Satin wedge has a classic
glare-free chrome finish, but for those golfers who have a need
to really stand out, Feel's Designer series may catch your eye.
With the Designer series, the head of the wedge is color-coded
to the loft: 46 degree bronze, 52 degree yellow, 56 degree blue,
60 degree red, and 64 degree green. The metallic colors with
gunmetal sole and faces are quite the attention getters. Each
Designer wedge comes with a head cover to keep them looking
sharp.
The
bottom line is that I can't think of a more aptly titled wedge.
The performance, weight, balance, handling, and general "feel"
of this club is outstanding. You simply have to get one in your
hand to understand, and I recommend that you do so as soon as
possible for your short game's sake. For about a hundred and
change you can get one almost anywhere clubs are sold or online
at feelwedges.com.
